Castine is probably one of my favorite communities on the Maine Coast. Castine is a quaint, historic
seaport rich with maritime history and architecture with a small selection of excellent shops and
restaurants. I inform my customers that this is NOT a busy, shopping mecca like Camden or Bar Harbor,
but if you like a taste of a relaxed, coastal village that is unspoiled, take our trip over at lunchtime or on
Friday for the extended trip.
Castine is one of the oldest villages in all of North America and has been continuously occupied since the
1600's. For historians, Castine was the site of the rather well known naval battle called the Penobscot
Expedition. This is considered by many as the worst naval defeat in US history. Castine is also home of
Maine Maritime Academy, my alma mater, most agree in the industry that it is the finest maritime
institution in the world.
We provide a wonderful brochure with a brief history and map of the village that you can read on your
way over to Castine.
